(andPOP) - The director of the acclaimed Japanese film ?Ringu? horror hits, and the newly released ?Ring 2? Hideo Nakata, has already suggested that he?d be interested in directing a possible ?Ring 3."

According to Nakata, the third installment would most likely be a prequel that follows the storyline of the brief life and death of 8 year old Samara Morgan. "In Japan, I directed a 'Ring' prequel called 'Ring Zero.' It's about how the little girl was killed at age 8," he revealed.

Nakata told the Chicago Sun-Times, "I wouldn't be surprised if there was another one. I'd love to do 'Ring Three'."

It would be a logical conclusion that Ring-series star Naomi Watts would not be returning for the 3rd film for obvious reasons if this plot indeed takes place before a ?tape? was ever made.
