(andPOP) - Nintendo this week announced its plans for its next generation gaming console code named Revolution. Revolution, which will be the successor to Nintendo's popular Game Cube console, will include built in wireless capabilities, allowing users to play each other over their high speed internet connection. In addition, you can expect backwards compatibility with Nintendo's previous Game Cube system.

Revolution's release is tentatively planned for sometime in 2006.

Nintendo also announced that their portable gaming unit, Nintendo DS, will include built-in WiFi as well by the end of 2005 at no extra cost to the consumer. This will allow users to play against their friends wherever wireless internet is available.

Expect further announcements from Sony and Microsoft on their next generation consoles in May at the popular E3 gaming convention.
