(andPOP) - The American movie debut of Audrey Tautou couldn?t be much bigger. The star of "Amelie" is negotiating to play Sophie Neveu in the big screen adaptation of "The Da Vinci Code."
Ron Howard has signed on to direct the film. Tom Hanks will star as the Harvard professor.
Dan Brown wrote the novel, which has become one of the most popular books of all time.
Production could begin in the middle of this year, and Columbia Pictures hopes to release it in May of 2006.
Tautou is a French actress who has appeared in "A Very Long Engagement" and "Dirty Pretty Things."
