Of the handful of prequels that have been released in the past few years, none are as unique as "Van Helsing: London Assignment," which recently was released on DVD (and none are as bad as "Dumb and Dumberer," but that's another story). The movie is animated, as opposed to "Van Helsing," which grossed over $100 million.
Hugh Jackman stars as Van Helsing, but this time as the voice. The half-hour short film focuses on Helsing's heated early battles with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in London. The movie however is not the most exciting or realistic look at a story that introduced the Van Helsing feature film, but it still keeps the interest of the audience, not an easy feat for an animated action film.
More interesting on the DVD is a behind the scenes look at the film, an exciting half-hour look at Jackman and Kate Beckinsale in action. There's also a routine interview with Jackman about the movie, and a look at the making of the Van Helsing video game.
