(andPOP) - G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo has been able to find humour in his two years behind bars.
Sure, Yayo - locked up on charges related to weapons-possession and bail jumping in 2002, just as 50 Cent and the G-Unit crew were exploding - might have needed to rub the right shoulders, put in some clear focus, and pour out the ole’ blood sweat and tears, but no doubt, it’s all paid off.
Yayo will be gracing television screens on Saturday night, as he hosts a special live edition of MTV’s show “Busted." And who better to host the live segment of cameras patrolling law enforcements across the country catching misdemeanors in action then the ex-con himself?
"The fact that I’ve been arrested, and then going to catch some guy getting arrested on the spot. It’s gonna be too funny,” Yayo told andPOP. “You’re trying to figure out what’s going on, like why me, and you start thinking all the things you should’ve done not to get arrested. I’m just gonna laugh, you know?”
But all humor aside, determination and an industrious attitude have played a crucial role in the rapper’s achievement.
“Considering all the things that I’ve been through in the past, going in and out of jail, it’s been tough,” said Yayo. “But I’ve been working really hard, trying to establish a solid work ethic, and I’m just so grateful for the opportunity to be on a huge show like this.”
The G-Unit rapper will be hosting the three-hour long “Busted” show from the MTV Times Square studio and he will help look back at the show's most memorable moments.
Ever since Yayo's tough times behind bars, he has been exposed to a life on the A-list, filled with success, fame and fortune, all while a main member of G-Unit - the group he founded with 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks while growing up in New York City.
“Thanks to guys like 50, Eminem, Dr. Dre and the crew, I started to get my act on. Those are some really great people,” said Yayo. “Bottom line, is that I want to gain success just like them, and I plan to work hard to get there.”
In that regard, the doors of success are still unlocking for the musical artist, as he will be making the jump from rapping in the music industry to hosting on television.
Though, to Yayo, being seen on the big screen won’t be a problem at all.
“It’s gonna be crazy, I’m actually not even nervous,” said Yayo. “I got some experience, I mean, I got a chance to do a bit of stuff on 50’s reality TV show which comes out in November, and that’s definitely helped. Also while watching 50 act with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, I asked him ‘are you nervous?’ and he’s like ‘nah, not really man, this is what I’ve always wanted to do.’
"So I think that in that sense, this is always what I’ve wanted to do too. It’s gonna be live, and I’m psyched about that, because I’m used to entertaining people in that way.”
