Add the andPOP Facebook Application(andPOP) - Comedian and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" co-star Russell Brand has been named as the host of this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
The 33-year-old Brit will join the company of such past VMA hosts as Chris Rock, Jack Black and Sean "Diddy" Combs when he takes the stage at Los Angeles' Paramount Pictures Studios on Sept. 7.
"(It will be) good to preside over what is sure to be only vaguely coordinated televised insanity," Brand told the AP from London on Thursday.
He added, "That's how I've made my name in this country: flying very much by the seat -- and the crotch -- of my pants."
Brand has had a relatively low profile in the States compared to his native U.K., where he is known as a stand-up and sketch comedy performer, TV show presenter, radio host and author of the autobiography "My Booky Wook."
His other film credits include "Penelope," the U.K. film "St. Trinian's" and the upcoming Adam Sandler fantasy-comedy "Bedtime Stories," which hits theatres in December.
