Add the andPOP Facebook Application(andPOP) - It’s the final round before the top 10 and the remaining group of 8 sing for their lives.
Before the Idol wannabes sing, we hear from the judges. “I thought last night’s performances, outside of a couple of them, were pretty lame,” says Jake. “I think the audience should be looking for someone who they would like to see live, hear on the radio, see on the regular video channel as opposed to the Canadian Idol show only,” says Farley. “I don’t even want to talk about last night. I want to talk about tonight. I want to see some people bleed on the stage. I want to see who wants to win this show,” says Zack.
Opening the show with “Blue” by Jawhawk is Mitch MacDonald. “You have a very unique tone. I think because of that, you deserve to be in the top 10 but based on that performance on a song that not a lot of people know, this is the play offs. What are you doing?” says Jake. “Although the song is not that familiar, it has a great melody and you did a great job with that. The falsetto I was in love with,” says Farley. “The falsetto sounded more like Alvin and the Chipmunks than Jawhawk,” says Zack.
Singing “House Of The Rising Sun” by The Animals is Gary Morissette. “I think you’re a smart guy and the fact is you took something that everybody at home knows and you did it in a way that shows what kind of artist you really are. I’m not saying I loved it, but good on you for bleeding all over the stage,” says Zack. “I think you took a chance, whether it will pay off, we don’t know. You showed the kind of artist you are and hopefully people will put you into the top 10,” says Jake.
Katelyn Dawn sings “Zombie” by The Cranberries. “The energy was good, but not great. Overall, probably the right direction for you,” says Farley. “I want to focus on the good things. I think the first chorus you didn’t try to imitate Dolores at all but there were moments where I saw the potential that you could compete in this show,” says Zack. “I think the thing I liked the most of out that performance was the attitude. You had great attitude,” says Sass.
Oliver Pigott performs “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers. “A real singer and an artist sings a song at the end of their range. That was real guts, real glory, good on you, brother. Way to push it,” says Zack. “You sang it like a real blues man. I felt like we were at the cold mine and we were listening to you sing,” says Jake. “I figure if you’re going to sing that song, that’s the way to sing it,” says Sass. “It was incredible and absolutely unforgettable,” says Farley.
Following Oliver is his younger brother, Sebastien Pigott, with “Bring It On Home To Me” by Sam Cook. “The whole thing was one great performance. I hope there’s room for two Pigott brothers,” says Jake. “I think we should have both. You’re probably one of the smartest performers I’ve ever seen and you have the emotion to back it up,” says Sass. “You’re the first real sex symbol we’ve had on this show. You understand how to entertain,” says Farley. “You’ve proved that this sure ain’t a singing competition,” says Zack.
With “Like A Rolling Stone” by Bob Dylan is Earl Stevenson. “That organ was killing right there. That was dope and so were you,” says Sass. “You get into the music and the music gets into you,” says Farley. “There are two people in this entire grouping that are of this moment, that I would go to the show and say dude, I had the best time. You are only 1 of 2 people that I feel that way about,” says Zack.
Performing “Love Is A Battlefield” by Pat Benatar is Katherine St-Laurent. “I thought that was a really solid, mature performance. Your voice sounded really good. You’re hot,” says Farley. “The fact is you’re 17 years old. You have, without a doubt, the best voice here. You got skills that none of these people can come close to,” says Zack. “I think that was the best performance you’ve done on the show. It was really confident. It felt like you know what you were doing. You deserve to be in the top 10,” says Jake.
Closing the show with “The Reason” by Hoobastank is Drew Wright. “Pipes: 8. Rockstar: 2,” says Zack. “I think you sang it decent. I liked the song choice, it was contemporary. I think you look really good on camera,” says Jake. “You’re definitely one of my favourite voices in the competition this year,” says Sass. “You’re a really gracious, humble kind of guy. I wish you would step on a little side of aggressive, but I’m with these guys, I love your voice,” says Farley.
Tomorrow night, the journey will end for six singers and the top 10 revealed at 7:30 p.m. EST on CTV.
