(andPOP) - This past week, Texas Instruments (TI) announced that it will be soon be bringing the world’s smallest projector to the US market. The tiny projector, called the Optoma Pico, debuted at this year’s Comsumer Electronic Show and received numerous awards, according to an article that appeared on the Popular Mechanics website.

While the original model of the Pico was designed with no commerical release in mind, TI confirmed that the small projector will be made available for commericial release with the help of Taiwanese projector company Optoma. The projector is expected to be sold in Asia and Europe by the end of the year and make its way over to the US in 2009, according to the article. The projector is expected to be sold for under $300, according to Popular Mechanic’s sources. The projector is to be a stand-alone product, but will be compatable with iPods, Playstation Portable, laptops and some cell phones.

According to TI, the projector will provide a clear image onto a 8.5x11 inch piece of paper in most indoor lighting conditions. The projector has about 1 to 2 hours of battery life which TI assures is enough to get through most movies, according to the article.
