(andPOP) - Bob and Doug McKenzie are returning to TV - but not in the way you might think.

The Fox network has teamed up with Canada's Global network to develop a new cartoon based on the dim beer-swilling Canuck duo, whom actor Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas originally brought to life for a two-minute SCTV skit in 1980.

"The Animated Adventures of Bob & Doug McKenzie" will feature the "hoser" brothers, voiced by Moranis and Thomas, and their exploits in a fictional town with family and friends.

Comedians Dave Coulier, Colin Mochrie, Pat McKenna, Derek McGrath, Ron Pardo, Jayne Eastwood and Ho Chow have also signed on to voice other characters in the cartoon.

Since their creation, the Bob and Doug characters have appeared in TV commercials and starred in the 1983 movie "Strange Brew."

They are recognizable for their wink-wink embodiment of various Canadian stereotypes, including a predilection for beer, tuques and lumberjack jackets, calling each other a "hoser" and a tendency to overuse the word "eh."
