(andPOP) - Jon Voight has joined the cast of "24" as the latest in a long line of baddies to square off against counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the veteran actor will play Bauer's (Kiefer Sutherland) "uber-nemesis" who is masterminding the upcoming season's terrorist threat du jour.

The two-hour Season 7 prequel, due to air Nov. 23, will give audiences their first look at Voight's character.

He will then feature prominently in the second half of the regular season, which begins in January.

The role marks Voight's first series role in 40 years, with his previous TV appearances including a three-episode spot on "Gunsmoke" in the late 1960s.

His movie career took off in 1969 with "Midnight Cowboy" and has earned the 69-year-old actor four Academy Award nominations, including one best actor win for 1978's "Coming Home."

His more recent film credits include "Mission: Impossible," "Ali," "Transformers" and the "National Treasure" movies.
