Beginning this fall, the "Dawson's Creek" alum will star in a production of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons," alongside Tony winner John Lithgow and Oscar winner Dianne Wiest.
The play, first performed on Broadway in 1947, is based on a true story and centres around a successful businessman (to be played by Lithgow) who knowingly supplied the military with defective airplane parts during World War II, with tragic consequences.
Holmes will play the daughter of the man's business partner.
The venue and dates for the fall production have not yet been announced.
Holmes, 29, was last seen on the big screen in this year's "Mad Money." The comedy caper, which also starred Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah, fared poorly at the box office.
