(andPOP) - Plans for a Virgin Festival in Vancouver have been scrapped after organizers found it too difficult to attract big-name acts.

"It wasn't from a lack of trying, but we just couldn't make it come together this year for Vancouver," Andrew Bridge, director of Virgin Festivals in Canada, told the Globe and Mail on Friday.

Bridge said the availability of A-list musical talent was especially limited given the recent boom in the number of music festivals.

As well, some of the bands organizers had hoped to book, including Coldplay, Radiohead and Jack Johnson, were already slated to play in the area in the coming months.

Last year's inaugural V-Fest in Vancouver was held on the Victoria Day weekend, featuring such acts as My Chemical Romance and The Killers.

Organizers had planned to schedule this year's event for late spring or early summer.

"We don't want to do a sub-optimal festival in Vancouver," Mr. Bridge said. "We want to make sure that we hold up extremely high standards."

He added that Virgin would try its best to hold the festival in Vancouver next year.

Meanwhile, V-Fests will go ahead as scheduled in two other Canadian cities this summer.

Calgary will host Stone Temple Pilots and The Tragically Hip, among others, on June 21 and 22, while Toronto's event on Sept. 6 and 7 will be headlined by Oasis and Foo Fighters.
