(andPOP) - Canadian actor Nathan Fillion, known for his role as Captain Malcolm Reynolds on the cult TV series "Firefly," may soon have another starring part on the small screen.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fillion is in negotiations for the lead role in a new ABC pilot.

The project, called "Castle," is described by the Reporter as a comedic procedural which would see Fillion playing a famous mystery novelist who teams up with the NYPD to bust crime.

Fillion currently has a recurring role on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" and recently finished shooting "Chilled in Miami." The romantic comedy, which also stars Renée Zellwegger and J.K. Simmons, is expected to hit theatres next year.
