(andPOP) - Justin Timberlake is diving into the sports world again, this time as the host of the 2008 Excellence In Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Awards.

Four years after his infamous Superbowl performance, the pop singer will emcee ESPN's annual ceremony celebrating the year's best and funniest sports moments.

The self-proclaimed "sports junkie" expressed his excitement at the new gig. "I can’t wait for the day of the show," Timberlake said in a statement released by ESPN. "I’ll do my best to deliver a great show, as I do not want to be roughed up backstage by these athletes who are bigger, faster and stronger than me."

The ESPYs will air live from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre July 20.

Timberlake can currently be heard guesting alongside Timbaland on Madonna's new single "4 Minutes."

The former 'N Sync-er will also appear on the big screen with Mike Myers in the comedy "The Love Guru," which will hit theatres June 20.
