Add the andPOP Facebook Application(andPOP) - R. Kelly is no stranger to scandals, particularly those involving inappropriate behaviour with women half his age.
The reason for the abrupt resignation of the controversial singer's longtime publicist, Regina Daniels, has officially been confirmed: Kelly was involved in a secret romantic relationship with her daughter.
Daniels hadn't given a reason for her departure last November but instead released a vague statement saying that Kelly had "crossed a line." After months of speculation and rumors centering on Kelly's alleged relationship with the publicist's daughter, Daniels' husband went on record confirming the affair and slamming the singer, MTV News reports.
George Daniels said in an interview with Los Angeles radio station KJLH that Kelly's relationship with the couple's 21-year-old daughter was a "betrayal" and caused them to distance themselves from the man they once considered "like a son". He went on to say that the relationship was especially disheartening to the Daniels because their daughter Maxine's grades slipped as she was swayed by Kelly's expensive gifts, which included a car.
In Kelly's defence, the singer's spokesman claims that George and Regina Daniels encouraged the relationship and says that Daniels resigned to avoid being fired "for incompetence."
The R&B singer is currently awaiting trial on child-pornography charges.
