(andPOP) - Marlon Wayans is the newest addition to the cast of Paramount's upcoming "G.I. Joe" feature, based on the popular Hasbro U.S. soldier action figures.

Wayans, whose resume ranges from comedies like "Scary Movie" and the 2004 remake of "The Ladykillers" to the drama "Requiem For A Dream," will play Ripcord, the leader of the military unit.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt ("3rd Rock From The Sun," "The Lookout") is also in negotiations to join the movie.

Other actors confirmed for the project so far include Sienna Miller as The Baroness, Rachel Nichols as Shana "Scarlett" O'Hara and Korean star Byung-Heon Lee as Storm Shadow.

The plot has been kept under wraps, but the war-themed story will reportedly take place 10 years in the future.

Stephen Sommers ("The Mummy," "The Mummy Returns," "Van Helsing") will direct the big-budget flick.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, one of the producers behind the recent action-figure adaptation "Transformers," will produce alongside Brian Goldner.

The movie is set to begin shooting next month, with a scheduled release date of Aug. 7, 2009.
