(andPOP) - In honour of AIDS day, Saturday, Dec. 1, legendary rock band Queen will release what will be their first single in ten years.

Following in the footsteps of fellow British musicians Radiohead, Queen's single will be available for free download on the bands official website.

The band is particularly invested in the cause because Freddie Mercury, the band's renowned lead singer, passed away in 1991 due to an AIDS related illness.

According to a statement made on Thursday by the drummer, Roger Taylor, Queen hopes to capture Nelson Mandela's message regarding the treacherous disease.

"By making the song available for free, we hope to help Nelson Mandela with his campaign to get across the message that no one is safe from infection," Taylor said.

"It's in our own hands to bring a stop to this."
