Hurts to be a Celtics fan

Even I felt bad when Boston didn't get a top 2 pick. I don't think anyone really cares that Memphis, the worst team in the NBA, fell to fourth but I have compassion for Celtics fan, who will now watch as their team chooses fifth in June's draft.

Even as a follower of the Raptors, I should have been rooting against the Celtics securing a spot to take Greg Oden or Kevin Durrant, but I still felt bad for two reasons:

1. The Celtics had the best odds to get Tim Duncan 10 years ago, but fell to third, where they chose Chauncey Billups. Billups took about a decade to become the stellar player he has become today, but he wasn't a solid contributor in Boston and was promptly shipped away, and he will never be even remotely close to the caliber of player Duncan is. The Celtics had bad luck then and it hasn't turned around 10 years later.
2. I think Bill Simmons may kill himself. He hasn't written an article about the lottery yet on ESPN's Page 2, and I am fearing the worst. And can you blame him? One minute you're thinking your team is going to turn around with the addition of a franchise player. And there were two – two! – franchise players in the draft. The next minute, you wish you were dead.

I hate The Killers...and so do they

Charity Flop

I've never seen a charity event get bashed as much as last weekend's Fashion Cares has.

Shinan Govani in the Post writes, "…The inevitable see-saw between Bad Party and Good Cause finally titled, crushingly, and perhaps irretrievably. In fact, for something that was an ancient, goodwill- grabbing Toronto institution, the party does seem to be finally over."

The Toronto Star devoted a whole article explaining why it sucked.

Peter Bjorn and John

I'm kind of/not so much/maybe a little into Peter Bjorn and John. They're like the indie darlings of the moment and you know their song "Young Folks."

I was watching a live version they did for Yahoo! Music and I was so unimpressed. They seemed so disinterested and so uninspired.

I don't know… I guess I'll stick to the studio versions then.

Also, I'd like to point out that I can outwhistle anybody. Try me.

Notes with no link

The amazing thing about the teams who were on the unfavorable end of two 3-1 series in the NBA playoffs – both are the higher seeds. Dallas is the No. 1 seed and best team in the NBA yet trail the No. 8 seeded Golden State Warriors, while No. 3 Toronto trails No. 6 New Jersey. Both teams won last night to make it each series 3-2, and don't count out Dallas until you see tears coming from Dirk's eyes.

Is Mark Cuban getting chunkier as the series goes on?

Are hockey reporters so scared to see hear something negative about their beloved Mats Sundin that their immediate reaction to the story about his possible career-ending surgery was to rip up the story's author before doing any research? Whoever does the Fan 590's hockey show embarrassingly ripped apart Steve Simmons after reading the story because Sundin's agent denied the story. Of course Sundin's agent will deny the story. The Fan 590 should be looking for new hosts for their midday hockey show, hosts who have no apparent biases.

How much longer until the Raptors realize they need a new colour analyst? Or at least until they permanently put Jack next to Chuck? Block the ball inbounds, Leo, I get it.

Oh yeah, this is an entertainment web site. Ok entertainment, entertainment. Britney's still crazy? Seriously though, there hasn’t been anything crazy going on since she went nuts.

Oh, here's something to talk about. Canadian record sales are down something like 35% in the first quarter, compared to this time last year. Immediately, the head of the Canadian equivalent of the RIAA blames illegal downloading. Lame. I blame the quality of music.

Alexa Rae Joel, the singing daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, blogged about her dislike for Perez Hilton on her MySpace page. She was upset about his obsession with superficial things (he made fun of her looks). To his credit, Perez did not reply with anything snarky, but actually posted her blog on his web site. Classy move after an attack without merit. The irony is, she has nothing to be ashamed about. And she's not.

Will there be an instant classic like Borat or Napoleon Dynamite this summer? I'm betting on no but hoping yes.
