A Netflix original, The Babysitter stars Judah Lewis as a teenage kid troubled to find that his attractive babysitter and her friends have a thing for human sacrifice. The B horror comedy is a fun choice from super-producer McG, you know the guy behind The OC, Supernatural and Chuck.
Hotel Transylvania 1 & 2
Probably Adam Sandler’s best work in recent years the Hotel Transylvania series is currently streaming on Netflix. Dracula, The Wolfman, The Mummy, Frankenstein and many more have some whacky fun in this Sony Pictures Animation franchise that has a third film schedule for release in 2018. So if you haven’t seen the original, you can use this Halloween as a chance to catch up.
If you’re a 90s kid with kids. Or just a 90s kid who’s a kid at heart, check out Goosebumps. Jack Black plays Goosebumps creator R. L. Stein, who’s monsters are accidentally released and terrorize a small town in this family friendly comedy. Oh and did we mention the original Goosebumps series can be found on Netflix as well.
How about a fantastic zombie fable from stop motion studio Laika! ParaNorman is the beautifully animated Oscar-nominated story of a young boy who can speak with the dead who must defend his town against a zombie curse.
The Witch is a New England folk tale that follows a family of puritan farmers banished to a remote homestead next to a forest that may or may not contain a witch. The film was shot in Kiosk Ontario on the Northwest corner of Algonquin Park, and explores the horror of paranoia, superstition and goats.
The stylish, nostalgic, dream-like flick follows a group of teenagers who are terrorized by a sexually transmitted monster that can take any form. The film earned raves from critics for it’s ability to draw great scares from a minimalist premise.
What We Do In The Shadows
What We Do In The Shadows is a mockumentary that follows a trio of old-timey vampires trying to get by in modern day New Zealand. The film comes from director Taika Waititi, who also plays a vampire. Waititi is known for filming hilarious adventures that mix lots of laughs with poignant, heartfelt stories like Eagle vs. Shark and Hunt For The Wilderpeople. His next film is Thor: Ragnarok.
