Raptors President Masai Ujiri started his career as a basketball player in Nigeria. After a short career as a professional basketball player Masai became a scout, looking to find the next big basketball star in his home continent. It was his time as a scout that encouraged him to start a basketball camp in Africa. Not only as a way of discovering new talent but as a way to give back to the community he came from and help African teens discover their potential on and off the court.
The documentary Giants of Africa takes us to the camp Masai started with the help of the Raptors and the MLSE. The Watchlist caught up with Masai to talk about the camp, the film and of course basketball.
We the North! So go show some love to Giants of Africa this weekend when it hits Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas in Toronto this weekend.
