In the not so distant future an astronaut stationed on Mars dies during childbirth on the Red Planet. Her son, Gardner Elliot (Asa Butterfield) grows up on the first human colony of Mars surrounded by scientists and dreams of a normal life on Earth. At the age of 16 he finally gets his wish to venture to his mother’s home planet and discover who his unknown father is. But, his body developed for life on Mars and isn’t able to sustain him on Earth. With a ticking time bomb of a heart Gardner runs away with his only earthbound friend, Tulsa (Brit Robertson) to go on the adventure of a lifetime in The Space Between Us.
Hailing from the UK, Asa’s acting career started at the age of 10 when he was cast in Son of Rambow (2007). Since then he’s waged an intergalactic war in Ender’s Game (2013), fixed clocks in Hugo (2011) and most recently saved gifted children in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016). Now, he reminds us how incredible the Earth is in The Space Between Us.
The Watchlist’s Vithiya Murugadas sat down with the crush-worthy Brit to talk relationships, road trips and drum & bass.
The Space Between Us hits theatres February 3rd.
