tv shows ending in 2017

TV addicts, this one’s gonna hurt.

It looks like 2017 is going to be a tough year for us  — because 2016 was so easy — as we prepare to say goodbye to some of our favourite shows. From supernatural thrillers to coming-of-age dramas, some of this generation’s biggest shows will be airing their final episodes next year, saying goodbye to the characters that we instantly loved, hated and everything in between.

We’re saying goodbye to some pretty liars, smouldering vampires, a touching sister story and a few other memorable characters. We’re also saying goodbye to their worlds that captivated us and took us away from reality for a few hours. Thankfully they’re all at least five seasons long– plenty of episodes to re-watch when we’re feeling nostalgic.

These are the shows we have to say goodbye to in 2017.

The Vampire Diaries

TVD has been one of our go-to dramas ever since we first laid eyes on the Salvatore brothers. We’ve seen their humanity turned off and on, too many times to count. We’ve fallen in love with #Delena, #Benzo and the other couples that brought something really special to the show. We’ve been honorary Mystic Falls patrons for 7 seasons, and it’s not going to be easy to say goodbye to Stefan, Damon and the rest of the TVD crew.

Orphan Black

Next year will mark the last season of Orphan Black — and it’s a bittersweet time for Clone Club. The twists, the turns, the clones, the sass, the science, it will all come to an end but, to be honest, we can’t wait to find out how everything comes to a close — then cry after we find out.

Pretty Little Liars

Our time with the ladies of Rosewood is coming to an end on April 18. We’ve been on the edge of our seats since the first day we were introduced to Aria, Emily, Spencer, Hanna and Alison — dealing with A, Super A, and all the other sketchy characters that waltzed in and out of Rosewood. The show’s on-and-off again ships kept us guessing season through season. Mysterious deaths, family secrets, and a web of lies too tangled to get out of — it looks like we’re in for an eventful final season.

Teen Wolf

The cast of the popular MTV supernatural drama made the announcement during the show’s San Diego Comic Con that season six would be their last. Over its seasons,Stiles and the gang went through more WTF moments than we can even count; alpha’s, hunters, ghost riders…Beacon Hills was never the same.  We’re going to miss these kids.

Girls

Lena Dunham’s critically acclaimed HBO drama is ending after six seasons. We’ve laughed and cried with this crew. We quickly bonded with the amazing actresses that took on their roles with wit and realness — Lena, Jemima, Allison and Zosia. We can only hope that next season their characters manage to navigate their lives in New York with as much humour and vulnerability as we’ve come to know and love.

Switched At Birth

The Peabody Award-winning series will air its final episodes next year, saying goodbye to Bay, Daphne and the rest of the cast. Through all the drama and the emotional moments, we’ve watched these characters grow up and their adventures. This show broke barriers and won over the hearts of viewers instantly. Hopefully TV writers will take after the show’s creators and continue to bring more representation of deaf men and women to television.

Grimm

The NBC fantasy drama will air its sixth and final season in January, leaving fans with an hour-long hole in their Friday night plans.  It’s the refreshing spin on the stories we all heard growing up that kept us watching and invested in these characters. After the stellar season 5 finale, we’re hoping this last season keeps its same momentum.

Reign

We fell in love with Reign the moment we were introduced to Francis, Bash and Mary. But as history has it, not everyone has a happy ending and this show is proof of that. CW recently announced that the next season of Reign will be its final one and as much as we hate to see Mary leave, we’re ready…ish.

Bates Motel

This Pyscho prequel of sorts creepily — yet perfectly — follows Norma and Norman Bates’ relationship, the last season ending with Norma’s death. Spoiler: This is when Norman goes psycho…for real. While we can’t wait to see the conclusion next season and get to see Rihanna as Marion Cane. We’re getting ready to say goodbye to this truly dark, unique show — and it’s pretty emotional, but we wait to see that highly anticipated finale that we know will give us chills in the best way.
