Tis the season to be…frantically running around looking for the perfect gifts for your friends and family. Holiday season is upon us — and an extremely popular go-to gift for a lot of people are books.
Everyone loves a good book — except, everyone loves different books. Of course, there are millions of books to choose from but, lucky you, we have a few selections that would be perfect gifts for just about anyone this holiday season.
Born a Crime by Trevor Noah
A comedian from South Africa, Trevor Noah is the host of The Daily Show. Born a Crime is his book of essays about his life growing up in South Africa during apartheid as someone who was mixed raced – as someone whose existence is, technically, a crime. The book is dark in his experiences but the way Noah writes has you laughing and thinking ‘how can I be laughing at this situation, it’s awful.’ It really is the perfect book for everyone.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Screenplay by JK Rowling
While Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is called the eighth Harry Potter story it is not, technically, written by Rowling herself. The screenplay for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, however, was actually written by Rowling herself so you know all superfans are going to be adding that to their holiday wish lists. Plus, it’s absolutely beautiful. Plus, you don’t have to have read Harry Potter to enjoy this adventure.
Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone/ Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Illustrated editions
Sticking to a Harry Potter theme here for a second — the illustrated versions of the first two novels are absolutely stunning. The art is truly everything you could hope for. Only two of these absolutely beautiful books are out at the moment but illustrated versions of all the books are on their way every year so on top to a great gift this year, you’ll have six more future gifts ready to go.
The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen
The Queen of the Tearling is an extremely popular adult fantasy (soon to be) trilogy. The third and final book in the trilogy hits shelves on November 29th so it’s the perfect time to get your fantasy loving friends and family hooked; binge reading time! Not sold on this one yet? It’s being developed into a movie starring Emma Watson. So, naturally, this is something for everyone to get behind.
Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick
Everybody loves a good comedic yet heartwarming memoir! If you have friends who loved Amy Schumer’s Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo maybe have them try Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick. After seeing Kendrick’s tweets you can only imagine how laugh out loud funny an entire book about her life is going to be.
Humans of New York: Stories
Everyone loves Humans of New York — so we can only except they’d love a full book filled with pictures and stories that will make you feel a whole spectrum of emotions. It’s a great coffee-table book that can be enjoyed by anyone who loves being a little nosey about other people’s lives.
Hamilton: The Revolution by Lin Manuel Miranda
This doesn’t even need to be justified, really. The Hamiltome will make every fan fall even more in love with this revolutionary musical. From the inspiration behind Burr and Hamilton’s first meeting to figuring out all the little references to iconic hip hop artists this book is probably on a lot of people’s wish lists. Well, try all of theirs.
Adulthood is a Myth by Sarah Andersen
There will never be a book that will make you say “same” out loud more. Sarah Andersen’s little semi-autobiographical comics started online and became so popular they’re in book form now! Everyone should probably own it just on its relatable content alone.
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
Has someone you know read The Girl on The Train or Gone Girl? The answer is probably yes. Good thing another great psychological thriller is always ready right around the corner. The Couple Next Door is a bestselling novel that is bound to keep the person you are buying it for on their toes — even if they’re not a heavy reader.
