We here at ANDPOP want to help you be trendsetters, introducing you to brand new (or just underrated) music to tell your friends about — yes, that was a Weeknd reference. We want you to be that person who says “I knew him/her before everyone else” — a “music hipster” if you will. EVERY THURSDAY, our aim is to bless your ears with the music that you’ve never heard, but will never stop listening to. This week, we have our ears set on Astrid S.
At just 19 years old, Norway’s Astrid S is making her name as one of music’s fastest rising stars of the year. Born and raised in Berkåk – a small town consisting of less than 1,000 residents – Astrid was just 6 years old when she started playing piano. Once she hit her early teenage years, she began writing and singing — and the rest is history.
At 16 years old, the songtress released her first single “Shattered” and two years later, was signed with Universal Music; releasing “2AM.” The track went on to earn a 5x Platinum title in Norway and was a streaming success after reaching over 100 million streams on Spotify, making Astrid Spotify’s Nordic Spotlight Artist for 2016.
As her success continued to grow, she impressively sold out her first Norwegian club tour, earning her the title of “Norway’s Next Great Pop Export” by NYLON Magazine. Since then, she has worked with some of the biggest producers in the biz like Lido and Avicii.
2016 has been a big one for Astrid. It’s marked the release of her debut self-titled EP, and her garnering a whole new fanbase travelling around Europe in support of Troye Sivan’s Blue Neighbourhood tour. Now, having already garnered massive home turf success, big name collaborations and incredible fan support with nearly 50,000 followers on Twitter, Astrid is gearing up to play her first sold out headlining UK tour.
