10 Celebrities Who ALWAYS Tell It Like It Is On Twitter

celebs who keep it real on twitter

Putting it all out there on social media is a scary thing — regardless who you are. With internet access giving so many the assumed right to attack opinions, especially those of celebrities, it’s not always easy to stand up and say — or tweet — what you want to say.

While social media has without a doubt revolutionized the way we connect and communicate with one another — including our ability to interact with some of our favourite stars — it’s also created censorship. You know, because how dare someone have a challenging opinion or be straight up honest — especially if the honesty is delivered with sass?

Celebs use social media platforms for self-promotion, reaching out to fans, and to support their latest projects — and we love them for it –but  some use their voice and platform to educate, speak up and keep it real for their millions of followers. Because, well, life’s to short to not say what you want to say.

It takes more than a simply “like” or “RT” to prompt serious conversation and change — which is why we applaud the celebrities who are willing to put it all out there, regardless of the potential fall out or consequences (we’re looking at you trolls). Whether they are being sassy and honest, vulnerable, speaking about important issues, or challenging opinions these celebrities unabashedly out their thoughts out there on the internet.

Oh, and they don’t give a crap what you think about it.

With that in mind, here are 10 celebrities who ALWAYS tell it like it is on Twitter:

1. Chloë Grace Moretz

Chloë has never been one to stay silent on social media. The 19-year-old actress famously told Kim Kardashian to cover up when she posted a nude selfie, and most recently reminded the internet that there is a lot more pressing than the Taylor Swift/Kanye West drama that set Twitter ablaze on Monday:

We’re not going to post Khole Kardashian’s bullyish, borderline sexual harassment of a response to the above tweet, but Chloë handled herself with grace and dignity. We love how she isn’t afraid to comment on her contemporaries’ behaviour, highlighting that celebrities should use their clout and status for something much more meaningful. Oh, and trolls? Get a life.

Chloë has also been using her Twitter account to actively support Hillary Clinton and her presidential campaign.

2. Matt McGorry

Ever since Matt hit the small screen in a HUGE way — he’s a part of the ensemble cast of both How To Get Away With Murder and Orange Is The New Black  — he has been using his social media accounts to educate his fan base on various political issues, including feminism, #BlackLivesMatter and white privilege.

Also, if you’re planning on spewing hate, we suggest doing it privately — because Matt WILL find you, and call you out.

3. Ariel Winter

Thank you Ariel for consistently calling “BS” on social media. From shutting down body shamers to commenting on America’s broken justice system, the 18 year-old is DEFINITELY not afraid to speak her mind.

She also brings a bit a humour to her political views, which we love. Canadians will DEFINITELY adopt you Ariel — don’t you worry.

4. Jussie Smollett

One of our favourite Empire stars — who’s just important for so many reasons — has always used his platform for promoting equality. As both an African American and LGBT member, he’s been vocal about the recent attacks on his communities.

5. Normani Kordei

We’re SO happy to see the next generation of celebs use their voice to educate their young fan base. Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei is no exception — showing her support for the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and underlining the bigger message behind it.

She’s also a champion of self-love — as seen in the video below–  and through her use of fun hashtag campaigns like #SelfiesForNormani, which encourages her fans to snap a picture of themselves to boost their confidence.

6. Colton Haynes

Telling it like it is doesn’t necessary mean advocating for a particular cause — it can also mean simply sharing your own personal opinions. Colton Haynes does it all (and then some) on social media. From calling out Coachella and the paparazzi, to sharing his struggles with anxiety, Colton certainly keeps it real.

7. Rowan Blanchard

We swear Rowan Blanchard is the one of the most well-read individuals on social media today. She always has something poignant to say about relevant news and we’re so fortunate that she uses her awareness to educate the rest of us. Reading her unique perspective on a variety of issues always provides a learning opportunity for her followers.

But when she’s through with droppin’ knowledge — or simply gets tired of it all — she reminds us that she’s a typical, relatable teen.

8. Tyler Oakley

Leave it to the reigning King of YouTube to tell it like it is on social media. We love how Tyler advocates for ALL people, not just members of his particular community.

But he is quick to remind us all about what it truly means to be an LGBT ally.

Tyler’s friendly reminders to say sane amidst all the troubling content we’re constantly being exposed to is also greatly appreciated.

9. Zendaya

Zendaya brings the SASS to social media — and we are HERE for it! From hilarious one-liners to support for marginalized groups, she always tweets what’s on her mind.

And let’s not forget the time she blatantly called out a misogynistic troll — and the tweets went viral.

Another one slayed. Thanks Z.

10. Demi Lovato

Thank GOD Demi has returned to Twitter — the social media platform just wouldn’t have been the same without her. Never one to be politically correct, Demi cuts to the chase and says it EXACTLY how it is. Combining humour, truth and her own personal experiences into her tweets, she’s as real as it gets.
