What’s Now On Netflix Canada: February 2015

The Fault in Our Stars

For some, February is a month invested in love, hearts and the romantic fair. For others—like myself—it is just another to continue eating chocolate without a reason to do.

You know what goes really good with chocolate and self-loathing? Netflix! Netflix Canada has a ton of great new additions this month (House of Cards is back, ya’ll) so lets check them out:

House of Cards (Season 3)

Frank and Claire Underwood are back to revive you from the dead of winter. For the most part, this third season has been kept under wraps and judging by how twisty last season was, this is for the best.

Anna Karenina

Director Joe Wright marvellously provides his lavish and grand iteration of the classic Tolstoy tale. In it, Anna (played by Keira Knightley) finds herself caught up in a life-changing affair. Anna Karenina is filled with fantastic imagery, lush costumes and a great score. Plus, Keira Knightley in a period-piece is never a bad move.

Hey remember when you went to go see The Fault In Our Stars in theatres and then couldn’t leave because you collapsed onto the floor from your tears? Okay same. For those living under a rock, TFIOS stars Shailene Woodley as Hazel and Ansel Elgort as Gus, two teens who meet at their cancer support group, fall in love and reduce you to a mess. Grab the tissues, and some of those chocolates I mentioned earlier and press play.

Les Misérables

Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman in Les Miserables

Speaking of tears…

Les Misérables is my The Fault In Our Stars. If I was 14 and had a Tumblr, it’d be filled with really awesome GIFs from (what I find to be) a really under appreciated musical. Is it a little messy? Sure. Is the direction wack? You bet! But it’s all star cast (Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne) bring the classic tale to the big screen (again) and it is an epic of love, tragedy, death, rebirth and all those wonderful things.

Gangster Squad

An all-star cast (Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin) lead this L.A.-set mob movie with the director of Zombieland at its helm. Did I mention it stars Emma Stone as a 1940s babe alongside an equally beautiful Ryan Gosling? What more does one need, I ask you?
