Heaven’s Just A Little Bit Funnier Now
Joan Rivers has died at the age of 81 in New York City. The trailblazing comedian was hospitalized last week after she stopped breathing during surgery on her vocal chords and suffered cardiac arrest.
She began her 50 year long career in entertainment in a short run play opposite a then-unknown Barbra Streisand in the late 1950s. She became an entertainment fixture after rising to fame via The Tonight Show, where she became Jonny Carson’s permanent guest host. The comedian was known for her often critical style of comedy that worked well on her last show, Fashion Police on E!.
“My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh,” said her daughter Melissa Rivers in a statement. “Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
