Benedict Cumberbatch Wins The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Posted on August 22, 2014 by

It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for.

Since Tom Hiddleston took on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in a glorious white T-shirt earlier this week, he did the world a good service by nominating Benedict Cumberbatch.

But since Mr. Cumberbatch was late in taking on the freezing task, he was punished not once, but FIVE times. Luckily for us, this proved to be a treat as we saw him get soaked in a suit, a white T-shirt and without a shirt on.

The video was posted by the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND), an organization that aims to raise awareness for a group of neurological disorders such as Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, having this disorder can cause full muscle paralysis and respiratory failure as nerve cells in the brain and spinal chord eventually degenerate and die.

According to the National Post, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has already raised nearly $42 million U.S, compared with $2.1 million between July 29 and Aug. 21 last year.

Personally, we’re extremely happy that Cumberbatch took part in this challenge not only because we got to see him soaked and silly, but because he’s also supporting a good cause!

After all, having portrayed Stephen Hawking (who has ALS) in a BBC television film in 2004, it would only make sense if he did his part to raise awareness!

He’s just too charming!!
