Every week, ANDPOP’s music aficionado, Evan Ross, shares what she’s been listening to lately. Here are her latest picks:
1) From The Night – Stars
The first song released from Stars’ upcoming album No One Is Lost (available October 14) is a sunny departure from what we normally see from the Montreal band. Torquil Campbell writes on NPR that the song is “a letter to those of you who stayed home and didn’t take a chance on the possibility that a bassline and a hi-hat rhythm might save your life.” So there you have it: a fun, danceable letter from Stars. Enjoy.
2) Recognize – PARTYNEXTDOOR ft. Drake
The latest from the OVO family, PARTYNEXTDOOR is like the perfect marriage of The Weeknd and Drake, as he’s able to both rap and sing with conviction. This is his most recent video, in support of his just released album PARTYNEXTDOOR TWO.
3) Left Hand Free – alt-J
This song is a bit of a change for alt-J, from their upcoming album This is All Yours. Nevertheless it’s a fun, summery tune, perfect for helping you forget that school starts in two and a half weeks.
4) Anaconda (Explicit) – Nicki Minaj
I really tried to resist writing about Nicki Minaj again this week but it simply proved impossible when I heard that she was sampling Sir Mix-A-Lot on her new song. “Baby Got Back” is a truly #iconic song and doesn’t nearly get the respect it deserves, so I just want to thank Nicki for this song. I’ll try to find a way to avoid forcing you all to listen to her next week.
