How many 16-year-olds can say that they’ve been attacked on stage before? While that number may be a small one, Vine celebrity and singer Shawn Mendes can now count himself in that rare group of people.
During one of his appearances in Toronto on Wednesday, a fan evaded security and laid a hug and a kiss on the teen sensation before she was taken off the stage.
But if the loud screams from his legion of loyal admirers were any indication of how big Mendes’ star power has gotten, the young fan didn’t leave the stage without a fight. As she was carried and escorted off stage by a burly security guard, she kicked the air to get away from his arms.
Mendes, who is currently on tour with Austin Mahone, became an Internet phenom after posting six-second Vine videos on the internet. His debut single ‘Life of the Party’ has since hit #1 on the iTunes chart and he became the youngest artist to debut on Billboard’s top 25.
Fans who were at the Toronto event tweeted about the incident.

But while Mendes came off unharmed from the ambush, he did admit that this was the first time he’s been attacked on stage.
“I looked to the right of me and she came running on the stage,” he said in an interview with CTV News. “She didn’t hurt me. It’s okay. It’s all good. It was a little scary though, not gonna lie.”
Aww! What a typical Canadian boy. If you check out the news report from CTV Toronto, you’ll also hear that Mendes said ‘Sorry!’ to the fan, as if HE did something wrong!
So cute. Don’t ever change, Shawn!
