There’s just a few more weeks left till school starts (sorry!) but that also means you still have lots of left time to binge-watch on Netflix Canada. Here’s what’s new!
You know how at 13 your first “love” is the most exciting and exhausting thing ever and no one else understands because parents just don’t understand? Moonrise Kingdom is a classic Wes Anderson film – wacky, colorful and fun – but with a very sweet story of a teenage love affair. Filled with an all star cast (Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray) Moonrise Kingdom is the director at his best and an absolute must.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
An asteroid is on the path to destroy Earth and a man (Steve Carell) finds himself alone after his wife leaves him. He takes a road trip to try and reunite with a high school sweetheart before the world comes to an end and is accompanied by a neighbor (Keira Knightley) who throws a wrench in his plan. Seeking a Friend is a bit of a mess but I think it’s a decent watch that has some laughs.
One of my favourites from last year is finally on Netflix Canada. In Nebraska, an aging, boozey father (Bruce Dern) makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son (Will Forte) in order to claim a supposed million-dollar lottery. When I saw Nebraska, it was during a matinee in the middle of the week with a bunch of old people and myself. We all cried together. Nebraska is an incredibly sweet and intimate portrait at a complicated father-son relationship.
There is one thing you need to know about me: I love a really cheesy thriller. Are you trapped on a plane? I’m there opening night! Are you Halle Berry and working at the emergency call center? Yes, please!
So when Premium Rush rolled around I showed up in full support. Premium Rush is as ridiculous as it looks – yes, JGL is chased on a bike by a menacing Michael Shannon. It’s cheesy, it’s very silly, it’s amazing. Watch it.
Cosmos is a docu-series that explores how we discovered the laws of nature and found our coordinates in space and time. I love myself a docu-series and Cosmos is fantastic; it’s education, smart, surprisingly fun and a must (to be smartz).
