Because a major part of The Hunger Games involves female empowerment, it would only make sense for Lorde to be in charge of the soundtrack for Mockingjay, right?
The 17-year-old singer from New Zealand will be curating the soundtrack for the upcoming movie The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. In addition to that, she also has the first single for the film, which she wrote with her producer Joel Little.
“I sat down with Lorde on the set of Mockingjay this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we, as both fans and filmmakers, were trying to accomplish with the film,” said Mockingjay director Francis Lawrence in a statement. “Her immense talent and keen understanding of Mockingjay’s characters and themes not only have enabled her to create a song of her own that completely captures the film’s essence, but her insight and passion for our project make her the perfect creative force to assemble the other songs on our soundtrack. I can’t wait to share what she’s done with the fans — it is truly remarkable.”
Clearly excited about the new project, Lorde also confirmed the news on her Tumblr page.
“to be at the helm of a project like this is easily the most responsibility i’ve ever had, and to me, that says something kind of amazing about the way the world is changing – a globally successful film franchise is allowing a teenager to run their shit. we are opening doors, we are moving walls. this makes me so insanely happy (sic).”
Of course, this won’t be the first time Lorde has helped out with the popular young adult franchise. For The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, she wrote a song called “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.”
We wish the singer all the best on her new endeavour!! We’re sure she’s going to KILL IT and curate one amazing soundtrack!
