Nick Jonas isn’t going to let a break up keep him down.
In this case, though, we are indeed referring to the professional break up between him and his brothers, Joe and Kevin, back in October when they announced the end of their band, The Jonas Brothers.
Nick is now back on the saddle and has just released the single “Chains,” his first post-Jonas Brothers track, on Thursday.
Premiered on Complex magazine, the youngest Jonas it sounds like Nick is talking about breaking free from his Disney pop past masked underneath a romantic breakup song.
“Everyone has their own chains, in life and in love, that bind them and this song embodies that feeling,” he told Complex. “I’m excited to be back to share this song with the world.”
The song is a strong ballad with rock, pop and R&B influences that builds and builds to a dramatic conclusion. It’s a good start to Nick’s new journey.
Nick and his brothers have been fairly open about their professional split. In an interview with Good Morning America on last October, he revealed that it was him who initiated the decision to break up.
““In a nut shell I said, ‘Look, I feel like we’ve had some complications in the group for a long time. We’re not addressing them and I think this train will fall off the tracks without, uh, getting real with some of the concerns and limitations we may feel as individuals and as a group.’ It was a tough conversation.”
Prior to releasing “Chains,” Nick had been hard at work as the creative and music director of friend Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights tour. He is currently preparing to release new songs under his new record label Island Records. His is also set star in DirecTV’s mixed martial arts drama Kingdom.
