We had no idea when Bon Iver was going to come back after frontman Justin Vernon announced their hiatus late last year. But if there’s anyone who could make them come out of their break, it’s actor/filmmaker Zach Braff.
According to an interview with NPR, Braff had his music supervisor Mary Ramos fly out to Wisconsin to screen a rough-cut version of his film Wish I Was Here for Vernon and his brother.
The film apparently really hit the two musicians in the feels, because they’ve even written a song exclusively for it.
“They were enjoying it and laughing, but at a certain point, they just got quiet. When it was over, Justin started humming,” said Ramos.
The result was ‘Heavenly Father’, which features a minimal drum beat and the loop of Vernon’s vocals. It’s a beautiful song that will be used during a crucial scene in the movie.
