All around awesome person LeVar Burton wants to bring Reading Rainbow back and he needs your help. He and the rest of the Reading Rainbow crew are looking to crowd source $1 million before Wed July 2, 2014 via Kickstarter in order to help influence a new generation of readers.
The legendary TV show which encouraged kids to read ended its 23 year run on PBS in 2006. Hoping to revive the brand and encourage a new generation of children to read, Reading Rainbow was reincarnated into a tablet app in 2014.
LeVar and the rest of the team are now looking to expand the program to the internet where it can be easily accessible by those who may not be able to afford tablets. They are also looking to bring the interactive program into the classroom by providing teachers with tools like teacher guides, and give the program to disadvantaged classrooms for free.
Those who are looking to back Levar’s dreams can look forward to possibly picking up some amazing perks including a Twitter follow from Levar ($250), a private dinner ($3500), a mug, t-shirt or tote bag ($50) and even a phone call or video chat with LeVar ($600).
Or, if you’re anything like Troy Barnes from Community, you could get a personalized, signed headshot of LeVar.
Will you help Reading Rainbow?
