Regular party crasher Bill Murray bestowed some impromptu words of wisdom on a bachelor party in Charleston, South Carolina over the American Memorial Day wisdom.
Stephen, a member of the party, told Deadspin that one of his friends spotted Bill Murray at the steakhouse they were in while on his way to the bathroom. They first tried sending drinks over to Bill which he politely declined. Another friend bravely went over to the actor to ask if he could say a few words to the groom, EJ. Alas, it was another request Bill turned down.
Lucky for this bachelor party, the Ground Hog Day actor changed his mind and walked into the room the boys were in just moments after they were told it wouldn’t happen. He then proceeded to give one hell of a speech.
“You know how funerals are not for the dead, they’re for the living?,” he began. “Bachelor parties are not for the groom, they’re for the uncommitted.”
He then explained his theory on how unattached young men can decide if they’ve found the one:
“If you have someone that you think is The One, don’t just sort of think in your ordinary mind, ‘Okay, let’s pick a date. Let’s plan this and make a party and get married.’ Take that person and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all around the world, and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of. And if when you come back to JFK, when you land in JFK, and you’re still in love with that person, get married at the airport.”
Not sure if that would work, but that’s one jovial idea!
