The R-rated comedy Neighbors might have been the much needed boost Zac Efron’s career has been looking for.
Just after the frat boy vs. young family flick beat out The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for the top spot at the box offices last weekend, rumours have begun circulating that Efron is currently being courted for a role in an upcoming Marvel movie.
The actor was reportedly given a script for an unspecified role in an top-secret Marvel Studios project, according to the Latino Review.
The rumours coincide with Marvel’s busy movie schedule. Between Marvel Studios (Avengers), 20th Century Fox (X-Men) and Sony Pictures (The Amazing Spider-Man), there are 13 movies that will tentatively drop between now and 2018. There is also currently one movie on Marvel’s busy schedule that does not have a title. Could the preliminary July 13, 2018 release date be intended for this mystery project? Or will it go to Channing Tatum, who was confirmed as The X-Men’s new Gambit (he replaces Friday Night Lights actor Taylor Kitsch as the the card thrower)?
While Efron has yet to prove himself as a box office-winning leading man, he has slowly been working at jumpstarting his admittedly stalled career. He has, however, proved that he has the body of a superhero thanks to some choice shirtless scenes in Neighbors.
Who do you think Zac Efron should play in the Marvel universe?
