Across The Pond: Pixie Lott

Pixie Lott

She may have the pop star look, but there’s soul in Pixie Lott’s voice.

The British singer has been making waves with her seamless blend of R&B, soul and pop melodies ever since her 2009 debut album, Turn It Up. She even had one of her favourite artists, Stevie Wonder, deliver a harmonica solo on the song “Stevie on the Radio” on her second album, Young Happy Foolish!

For a 23-year-old, Pixie Lott has managed to accomplish quite a lot. She’s toured with the Saturdays, and has worked with some of the best directors and producers in the music business, including John Legend and RedOne. She’s also preparing to release her third album later this year.

While I love both of Pixie’s albums, the single “Boys and Girls”from her first, is a personal favourite.

It’s an infectious track that will have anyone dancing in no time.

Her latest single, “Nasty,” has already earned promising reviews for the skilled songstress. Originally recorded by Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green for the Burlesque soundtrack, it didn’t take long for Pixie to deconstruct the song to make it her own.

She’s also done a fantastic duet of “Nasty” with the boys of The Vamps. Listening to Bradley Simpson sing “Wanna see you get nasty” is obviously the best part.

Pixie’s third self-titled album drops in August.  I promise you, this girl is worth the listen.
