Across The Pond: Neon Jungle

Neon Jungle

As an admirer of British pop culture, ANDPOP’s Rebecca Mattina jumped at the opportunity to live in the United Kingdom for five months. While there, she’ll be writing about all the amazing things we’re missing out on from across the pond.

Girl groups are back in a big way.

With the likes of Fifth Harmony, and British beauties Little Mix and the Saturdays, we’ve seen more than one group grab our attention in the last few years. The most recent girl group to take over the U.K. is none other than Neon Jungle.

Members Shereen Cutkelvin, Amira McCarthy, Asami Zdrenka and Jess Plummer only came together last year, but they’re quickly making a name for themselves now. They’ve opened for Jessie J, performed at last year’s Victoria Secret Fashion Show, and scored two Top 15 singles. And to think, they’ve racked up an impressive list of achievements before their full-length album has even dropped!

They’ve described their music as versatile and raw, bringing together their pop, R&B and electronic dance influences to create a unique sound. In other words, they’re a fun mix of Ke$ha, Icona Pop, and Rihanna.

Their first single, “Trouble,” debuted last year to wildly positive reviews. Obviously I’m not the only one who loves the heart-thumping dance/pop anthem as the music video has over three million views on YouTube. Make sure to add this one to your summer time playlist.

With the reception they’ve been receiving from their U.K. fans, it’s only a matter of time before they burst on to the North American music scene. There’s no release date or album title yet, nor are there plans to tour outside the U.K. right now. We’ll have to settle for listening to their latest song “Welcome to the Jungle” over and over again – for now.
