Ellen Page opened up to another Ellen, day time talk show queen Degeneres that is, on Wednesday to talk about her coming out earlier this year.
Degeneres opened up her Ellen interview with the actress by telling Page just how proud of and how happy she was for her. Degeneres then played a clip from Page’s coming out speech at the Time to Thrive conference back in February.
“[I] was the most nervous I’ve ever been in my life for sure,” Page said of the clip. “I think my biggest fear of doing it was having a panic attack, quite frankly. But, you know, I was just so ready to do it and, quite frankly, was so excited to do it.”
The X-Men: Days of Future Past actress also thanked Degeneres for helping blaze a trail with her own coming out back in 1997.
“[I’m] grateful to you because you did it in a time when it was much harder and much scarier,” she explained.
Page also remarked on how much better she feels now that she doesn’t have to hide her sexuality.
“It’s so nice to be at work and talk about an ex or, you know, get to wear what you want and not have a conversation about it,” said Page. “It’s so nice to have people come up to me and tell me their story or, you know, say, ‘Hey, I’m closeted. Can you give me advice?’ Those are really beautiful moments to get to share with people.”
