Lupita Nyong’o knew she wanted to act after watching Whoopi Goldberg in The Colour Purple when she was just five-years-old. Fast-forward 26 years later, Lupita entered the acting world with a bang thanks to her breathtaking role in 12 Years a Slave.

With all the buzz surrounding the 31-year-old actress, it’s no wonder why she’s our #WCW. We’ve become so enamoured by this actress that we’ve put together a list on why we love her (it’s everything, we love everything).

1. Her role as Patsey

Lupita’s career skyrocketed thanks to her Oscar-winning performance as Patsey in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave. She portrayed so much emotion and hardship that we just can’t help but cry every time we watch it.

2. “Your dreams are valid”

Remember when Ellen fed the entire crowd at this year’s Academy Awards? (Good times.) But do you also remember the amazing speech that Lupita gave after she’d won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress? Every individual watched this speech probably had a tear or two in their eye.

3. She’s stunning!

It’s no surprise that People’s Magazine chose Lupita as their Most Beautiful for 2014. From her killer red carpet looks to her eloquent interviews, the girl is just simply stunning.

4. Breaking Boundaries

She may have just jumped onto everyone’s radar, but Lupita is already breaking boundaries. Cosmetics company Lancôme announced earlier this month that Lupita has become their first ever black spokesperson. She joins other great beauties such as Julia Roberts and Kate Winslet, the brand’s other notable ambassadors.

5. Loves Leo DiCaprio

Who doesn’t love a bit of Leo in their life?

Lupita took it upon herself to make sure she met one of her favourite actors at the the Golden Globes back in January. We don’t blame her. If Leo were in front of us, we’d probably cry at his feet. “JAAAACK!”

6. Peter Nyong’o

But the best and only way I can end this #WCW is by introducing Peter Nyong’o a.k.a. Lupita’s brother. He not only photo-bombed Ellen’s epic Oscar celeb selfie (he’s to the right of Bradley Cooper and under Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie), he’s also been Lupita’s date of choice during this year’s award season, proudly documenting her journey along the way. Are we jealous? YES.
