As an admirer of British pop culture, ANDPOP’s Rebecca Mattina jumped at the opportunity to live in the United Kingdom for five months. While there, she’ll be writing about all the amazing things we’re missing out on from across the pond.
With their usual sarcastic and cheeky deliveries, British comedians are some of the best around.
Jack Whitehall has been one of my favourites for quite some time now. And like our lovable James Corden, we could call him a “Jack” of all trades (pun definitely intended). Not only is he a talented comedian, he’s also an actor, presenter, and writer.
I can’t count how many times I’ve watched his stand-ups shows at London’s Apollo Theatre. Let’s put it this way, I know all the words. Just try not to laugh.
Outside of his stand-up, Jack is the writer and star of the hit U.K. comedy Bad Education. The show follows Jack’s character Alfie, a teacher that acts more like his students than an educator. Its witty script full of sarcastic and well-timed one-liners and charming characters, makes it one of my favourite British-produced show. It even caught the attention of the American TV industry as he’s now filming the American remake, An American Education. Here’s a taste of what we can hopefully expect.
It’s easy to see where Jack’s style of comedy comes from whenever he shares the screen with his father, Michael Whitehall, on their comedy talk show Backchat. Their time together usually always ends in embarrassing stories that have Jack red-faced and trying to stop his father from going further. It’s a real treat to watch their banter.
And let’s not forget his adorable relationship with our fellow Across The Pond star James Corden. Put these two together in one room and just try to stop laughing.
Jack is one of those guys you just wish you could hang out with and have a pint. For the unlucky one who couldn’t see Jack on tour this year (this writer included), his comedy DVD Jack Whitehall Gets Around is available for pre-order now.
