It’s only been six years since Tibby, Carmen, Lena and Bridget last graced the big screen, but it’s now movie-time for a ten year reunion.
In hopes that the original cast (Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, Blake Lively and Alexis Bledel) agree to return for the third Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants movie, a look at some lessons we’ve learnt so far from these four. (There’s still so much to learn!)
1. Believe you can…
“…and you’re halfway there,” said Theodore Roosevelt. This is true for any goal, especially when it comes to fitting into the same pair of pants that you share with your friends even though you’re all different sizes. We gladly suspend belief for these besties and that fine quality denim.
2. Be in control
Whether that’s birth control, or just in your day to day life. In the case of SotTP, the girls took charge and forged ahead with their plans. BUT SPOILER ALERT: (avert yours eyes if you haven’t read the book series, seriously, stop reading this sentence) Tibby will definitely be stretching them out in the third movie.
Pursue your passions
Following her passion led Lena to a beautiful male model which ultimately brought her back to Kostas. We’re not saying you will find your true love in art class, but we’re also not not saying that. But we are looking forward to seeing what the other three made of themselves and their careers. Eeek!
Stand up for yourself
Whether to a colleague, or you know, to your dad, his new wife and family, Carmen doth protested in both Sisterhood movies. She taught us that no one can diminish you, but yourself. People can only put you down if you let them. Amen, or A-women!
It’s the little things
In many ways, the girls showed us that it’s the moments between the milestones that matter most. It was an idea best reinforced by Bailey, the thorn in Tibby’s side that fateful summer. Bailey also taught Tibby to string together all the little things and make those count more than the bad stuff. RIP, B.
Greek girls do not lose their pants
It’s not etched into the walls of the Parthenon or anything, but as far as Yiayia is concerned it should be. Don’t let the dark, handsome looks and adorable accents of Greek men cloud your judgement, ladies and gents. But, if he’s anything like Kostas, at least you’ll know that you’re in good hands.
You’ve been busy preparing for your theatrical debut or finding your long lost grandmother, and maybe you’ve been a little neglectful of your friendships as a result. It happens. Just be sure to make it up to them. Maybe your stepdad doesn’t have a bunch of airmiles that are about to expire, and you can’t spring for a trip to Santorini, but you’ll think of something. (Sidenote: It looks like the girls will be catching up under Grecian skies in the third installment.)
If all else fails, jump off a cliff…
…into the beautiful Mediterranean sea and lighten up. Life is tough, but quit taking yourself so seriously, and have fun!
We can’t wait to laugh, cry & share the magic of the pants again. What’s your favourite part of the Sisterhood?
