Across The Pond: Emma McGann

Emma McGann

As an admirer of British pop culture, ANDPOP’s Rebecca Mattina jumped at the opportunity to live in the United Kingdom for five months. While there, she’ll be writing about all the amazing things we’re missing out on from across the pond.

There’s just something about Emma McGann that’s seriously cool. I’ve only recently started listening to the singer-songwriter but I’m already hooked.

Emma is a promising rising talent, producing fun pop melodies that suit her sweet but edgy voice. With her 2010 debut album Start The Show and the 2013 EP Fiction under her belt, she’s steadily been growing her fan base for years, and she’s making more noise than ever.

The diversity in her music is especially refreshing. Everything from beautiful acoustic ballads to let-you-hair-down fun pop melodies, this girl is definitely unique.

Even before I looked at Emma’s list of influences on her Facebook page, my mind immediately thought of killer female artists like Kelly Clarkson, Alanis Morrisette, and Ellie Goulding – all talented ladies with beautiful voices and strong song-writing skills.

She also has a knack for covering some of our favourite tunes. Her version of Union J’s “Beethoven” is a personal favourite.

Even pop legend Kylie Minogue has praised Emma’s talents, calling her “fantastic.” Strong female singer-songwriters are one of music’s biggest assets, and Emma is proving herself to be a part of the list of singers she idolizes and delivers the goods song after song.

Her latest single “Cherry On Top” has been getting regular airplay on U.K. stations. The song is a fun up-tempo pop number that will have you on your feet and singing into your hairbrush (I know I’m not the only one).

Emma McGann is not only making waves in the U.K., she’s also a must-follow on Twitter (@emmamcgann). Trust me, you’re going to want to get to know this girl.

Sadly she’s not touring right now, but until she does you can buy “Cherry On Top” on iTunes.
