Following in the footsteps of Harry Potter, Twilight and The Hunger Games, the last novel in the Divergent trilogy will be split in two parts.
The film’s studio Lionsgate announced Friday that it has decided to split Allegiant, the final book from Veronica Roth’s series, in two parts.
Allegiant Part 1 will release March 28, 2016 while Allegiant Part 2 will be planned for March 24, 2017.
This comes as no surprise seeing that Divergent got $54 million on the opening weekend in the U.S. So far, it has generated about $117 million domestically in three weeks and another $22 million internationally.
I’m personally a bit tired of this formula. But like all things in the movie-making business, money talks. Divergent has proved itself to be popular among the teen crowds…so why not follow in other young adult trilogies’ shoes?
The next installment of the Divergent series, called Insurgent, comes out March 20, 2015.
