An orange carpet, a blimp award and green slime, Nickelodeon’s the Kids’ Choice Awards is quite the party.
The orange carpet was rolled out once more to help welcome some of the biggest names in TV, movies and music descended on Los Angeles for the annual award show on Saturday. Putting the fear of getting slimed aside, the KCAs is where young fans vote on which of their favourite celebs get to go home with a covets orange blimp award.
Here’s a look at the highlights from the night
1. Selena Gomez wins Favourite Female Singer
Selena took home her eight KCA blimp this weekend and her touching acceptance speech was one of our favourite moments of the night. She thanked her fans with sincerity as she said, “you continuously every year, bless me with the opportunity to do what I love, so thank you so much.”
2. Super Producer Dan Schneider is honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award
If you’ve ever seen any Nickelodeon show, you would be familiar with the “Dan Schneider Oven” title card that plays after the end credits. Scheinder has worked on eight Nickelodeon shows over the years, and was finally recognized for this contribution to the channel on Saturday. Cast members from his shows Drake and Josh, Victorious and iCarly helped present the award to this one-of-a-kind guy.
3. One Direction picks up TWO awards
Though One Direction couldn’t be at the KCAs this year (they’re busy getting ready for this upcoming world tour), they did win the orange blimps for Favourite Music Group and Favourite Song for “Story of my Life.” The Brits and the one Irish lad were even sweet enough to record a video message for all their young fans.
4. Sam & Cat stars on and off the carpet
Ariana Grande made waves as she sported a Nickelodeon-inspired outfit. She paired her orange bodycon dress with a while Chanel purse decked out in stickers from all our favourite Nick cartoons (Hey Arnold! Rugrats!).
Meanwhile, Ariana’s co-star Jennettte McCurdy was nowhere to be found. The actress said on Twitter that she was treated unfairly by the kids network and decided to boycott the event.
5. Slime Time
While the 20,000 gallons of slime is sure to make a mess, it’s also pretty entertaining. Top of the list for 2014? Host Mark Wahlberg got massively slimed while fans voted to slime BOTH Austin Mahone and Cody Simpson at the same time.
