You may want to take a deep breath before you continue reading. Are you ready?
Great, because rumour has it that the Backstreet Boys may go on tour with the Spice Girls!
[You may fangirl now. Remember: deep breathes and we apologize if you happen to be freaking out at work/school.]
The U.K.’s Sun tabloid newspaper claims that Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys let it slip that the boy band are currently in talks for possible tour global dates.
“We are actually in early talks about maybe doing a world tour together with the Spice Girls,” he reportedly told the paper.
If true, the tour would be a huge win for nineties pop music fans everywhere. Considering how we used to pair up each member with the Spice Girls with a suitable man from the Backstreet Boys when we were younger (Baby Spice would be with Nick Carter because they were the youngest, etc.), this tour would no doubt easily become our everything. But I digress.
Neither camps have made an official statement as of yet, so we can only chalk up this revelation as an rumour.
We do know, however, that the Backstreet Boys will be hitting the road for a North American tour this summer. Pop punk songstress Avril Lavigne will join them as their special guest. The boy band will also be sailing the high seas in October for the Backstreet Boys Cruise where we can only hope sailor outfits are part of their wardrobe.
Meanwhile, the Spice Girls haven’t been touring as extensively as their boy band counterparts. In fact, their last gig together was during the 2012 Summer Olympic Opening Ceremony in London. There is also a likely chance that Victoria Beckham, a.k.a. Posh Spice, will not be joining the rest of the girls for future performances as she told French Vogue earlier this year that she has more or less parted with her nineties alter-ego and singing career.
“It should have been the best moment of my life, but I just wanted to be elsewhere,” she said of the girl group’s 2008 reunion tour. “It wasn’t a lack of respect for the girls or the audience, but the passion just wasn’t there. By contrast, in my new career [as a fashion designer], the passion grows every year. I still want more.”
So in reality, the chances of a Backstreet Boys/Spice Girls world tour are looking less and less likely but we’ll still hold onto hope anyways. Dreams can come true, right?
