The best meme of Oscars night was not courtesy of Brad Pitt enjoying his pizza, but was instead inspired by John Travolta who somehow managed to flub Idina Menzel’s name right before she performed Frozen’s “Let It Go.”
For those who didn’t tune into Ellen Degeneres’ Academy Awards pizza party (a.k.a. the 86th Oscars), he called her “Adele Dazeem.” Adele Dazeem.
While the world has taken to Travoltifying their names since then (we did the same with our favourite celebrities), Travolta himself had stayed curiously quiet over the whole ordeal — until now.
In a written statement distributed by his publicist, the Grease star said, “I’ve been beating myself up all day. Then I thought…what would Idina Menzel say, She’d say, ‘Let it go, let it go!’ Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!”
While his introduction was flawed, this apology isn’t; it’s short, sweet and has a tiny touch of humour. Good on ya, Travolta. You’re a class act.
