If your lack of cable has inhibited you from throwing a viewing party in the past, for the first time ever the Oscars will be streamed live. Hurray! Hollywood’s hottest night is quite the glamorous spectacle, and we already know who will be talking home that golden statue, or should anyway. Impress your friends & fill out your Oscar ballot accordingly:
Remember when this category only had five nominees? It wouldn’t matter if the category had 20 options, 12 Years a Slave is going to take this one home.
This one can only go in One Direction (HA!) and that is straight to Alfonso Cuarón for Gravity. I mean, have you seen it? It’s the space version of Titanic (except 1, 500 people didn’t also die & the leads didn’t makes love, buuuut Leo DiCaprio/George Clooney died while Kate Winslet/Sandra Bullock survived). Irregardless, the breathtaking film is sure to win (& make you dizzy).
Cate Blanchett will likely be tossing back some champagne when toasting to her Oscar this weekend for Blue Jasmine. The win would be the second Academy Award for the star. While Cate’s portrayal was completely captivating, there’s a part of me that thinks Meryl Streep’s turn as Violet Weston (August: Osage County) deserves a gold man too. Yes, she has about a billion Oscars cluttering her home, but does that make it any less deserved?
This writer would be very surprised if 12 Years a Slave‘s Lupita Nyong’o wasn’t handed one of those coveted trophies. JLaw won the Golden Globe for supporting her cast mates in American Hustle this year. Plus, she won an Oscar last year, so it’s time for Lupita to shine. If there was a category for funniest face making then hands down JLAW is the victor:
Matthew McConaughey has come along way from his role in How to Lose A Guy in Ten Days, and I don’t think this guy will be losing anything come Sunday. The Oscar would be McConaughey’s first one, and well deserved for his performance in Dallas Buyer’s Club. Plus, look how pretty:
A separate award should be presented to Jared Leto’s beautiful man bun, after he receives his Oscar for Dallas Buyer’s Club, of course. The internet is abuzz with how Leto will style his hair for the ceremony. Fingers crossed for a sequel to the Golden Globes ‘do.
Animated Feature/Original Song
We’ve lumped these two together, because Frozen has melted theatregoers hearts and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will no doubt hand it to the latest Disney hit.
Live Action Short Film
Avant Que De Tout Perdre (Just Before Losing Everything) has been praised by the LA Times, The Hollywood Reporter, and we’d have to agree. Ouat Media‘s (pronounced “What”) award winning acquisition is a short film favourite among critics, and us alike. The thrilling tale will have you on the edge of your seat, and you can catch the film before Sunday’s awards on iTunes. (We apologize in advance when you no longer have finger nails).
We might slightly be biased because ANDPOP and Ouat Media are both owned by Channel Zero, so check it out for yourself–we’d love to hear your thoughts (that is what our lovely comment section is all about).
We’re quite confident in our predictions and stand by our choices–what do you think?
