Many fans of The CW shows are breathing a sigh of relief after the network announced early renewals for five of their shows.
The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Arrow, Reign and Supernatural will all be returning for the 2014-2015 television season next fall.
“I’m very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series, and let our fans know they’ll have more great drama to look forward to next season,” said Mark Pedowitz, President of The CW.
Rather than having to wait until May for the upfronts (where network executives announce their fall schedules to press and advertisers) Pedowitz made the announcement yesterday for early pick-ups based off the statistical success of the shows.
The Originals will be coming back for a second season after this season’s Tuesday night success and thanks to Supernatural, the network’s ratings doubled for Tuesdays. Supernatural will be returning for it’s tenth season, with no word if it will be the show’s the final run.
The Vampire Diaries is “the network’s highest-rated show” and will be getting a sixth season while Arrow is “The CW’s most-watched series” and will come back with a third season.
Reign has been steadily growing viewership in it’s Thursday night time slot and so is being given a second season as well.
We’ll be eagerly awaiting to hear which cast members are signed on for these new seasons.
The early pick-up news comes days after E! News announced that their “Save One Show” campaign (SOS, get it?) will begin soon. SOS has been going on for a long time and has helped fans save their favourite shows like One Tree Hill and Chuck, according to E!. It is not clear whether Pedowitz’s announcement has any correlation to the campaign but it sure will help fans decide which shows they want to nominate to save.
The network has yet to announce the fates of other popular CW shows, like Hart of Dixie, The Carrie Diaries and the new series, The Tomorrow People.
If you could save ONE CW show that is not yet confirmed to return, which one would it be?
